An English speaking chauffeur will meet you at the cruise ship and drive you through the Tuscan countryside decked with seemingly endless rolling hills and sentinel- like cypress trees.
The first stop will be in Florence, the birth place of the Renaissance . Due to the rich heritage of art and architecture , Florence , said to contain 52 % of the art in the world, was declared a World Heritage site in 1982.
The famous Duomo and The Baptistery, The Accademia Gallery, home to the renown sculpture of The David by Michelangelo; The Uffizi Museums , a paradise for art lovers ; The splendid Pitti Palace; The Ponte Vecchio Bridge … a shoppers delight ; The Piazza della Signoria and the Palazzo Vecchio are some among the famous sites to visit.
The second stop will be in Pisa ,situated on the right bank of the Arno River, an ancient trading town that dates back to the 5th century BC. It is here that one finds the famed Leaning Tower and the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles). The free standing bell tower attained it’s inclination of 5.5 ° at the time of construction due to defects in the foundation. However efficient restoration between 1990 and 2000 reduced the incline to 3.99 ° , meaning that the high point of the delicate , almost lace-like construction , is 3.99 meters higher than the lower point.
